Meeting of 9/16/2008
Opening:
- Steve Hart opened the meeting at 6:30pm with the Pledge of Allegiance and a welcome to the visitors. There were about 30 members present.
- Steve pointed out that the Suggestion Box is in place and currently empty.
- Shop Report: The shop will be open this Thursday. Next week John Hees will be here to clean and organize the shop. Volunteers needed. Becky Rogers reminded the club members to check the website www.orovillerocks.com for current information.
- Fundraising Report: Steve gave kudos to the Fundraising Committee. They worked for two weekends at the swap meet in Oroville and raised $280. More donations are needed to sell.
The club thanked Ben and Eileen Halpin for the $250 donation for a rock saw.
Reminder: Bring in aluminum cans and plastic bottles to the shop. Gerry Hill will take them in for recycling.
- The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved.
- Show Report: Member Sweat Required. John and Sue have been working hard to get this event going. The 1st Annual Swap Meet on 10/4/08 will combine a Gem and Mineral Show, Swap Meet, Bake Sale, Plant Sale, and Silent Auction. Volunteers are needed to sign up for duties. Set up will be 4:00-9:00pm on Friday evening and the event will run from 10:00-5:00pm with clean up to follow.
Pam Ishmael passed out posters and fliers and requested assistance in posting them in shops and locations around town.
Sue Hees gave details on the volunteer opportunities to make the event a great one. She set up sign up sheets in the back of the room.
The meeting adjourned informally around 8:30pm. The next meeting will be 10/21/08 at 6:30pm.
- Field Trip Report: Manuel Garcia announced the next field trip would be to Sawmill Peak for Rhodonite, serpentine and soapstone on 9/20/08. The club will meet at 8:15am at the DMV parking lot.
- Demonstration: Steve Hart gave the club a wonderful demonstration and lesson in the art of successful rock tumbling.
