Meeting of 8/19/2008
Opening:
- Steve Hart opened the meeting at 6:35pm with 50 members present. The meeting was held in the new shop on Mitchell. The minutes from the previous month were read and approved.
- A vote was held about the matter of when to meet that was brought up at the last meeting. The move to change the weekly schedule of meetings was defeated and the move to change the time of the meetings from 6:30pm to 6:00pm was defeated.
- Ben Halpin gave a review of the first club field trip to the Mineral Wall near DeSalba. (Connie said a CD with pictures of the trip are available for a $2.50 donation to the club.) For education purposes, Ben assigned research topics to members and offered research assistance. He stated that the next field trip would be 9/20 in the Lime Saddle area for geology and fossils.
- Steve announced that all members signing up in 2008 were Charter Members. The term ends January 1st and members will need to renew at that time.
- David Cossey reported that he moved the date of the swap meet and that it may be monthly.
New Business:
- OHS is selling a 16” slab saw for $600. Interested buyers should see Steve Hart.
- Elmo Lackey was introduced to the club as the past president of the previous Oroville rock club.
- The meeting then moved to a demonstration of slabbing, cutting and shaping cabochons.
Adjournment:
- Meeting was adjourned at 8:15pm after the raffle. The next general meeting will be at 6:30pm on September 16th in the shop.
