Meeting of 5/20/2008
Opening:
- The first meeting of the Feather River Lapidary and Mineral Club was called to order at 6:45pm on 5/20/08 in Oroville, Municipal Auditorium by John Hees who welcomed all attendees as charter members in the newly formed Feather River Lapidary and Mineral Club.
- He gave a brief history of how the club came to be formed after the interest generated by the community once John and Sue Hees were asked to teach a rockhounding class at Oroville Adult Education.
- He introduced the rest of the steering committee who have been meeting to form the club’s Board of Directors and create the Bylaws; Gerry and Jennifer Hill along with Steve and Sharon Hart.
- He thanked several people for the generous donation of equipment and material including Steve Hart who has donated lapidary tools for the club’s use. John also thanked the Feather River Parks and Recreation Department for their generous response to his board presentation. FRP&R agreed to provide a place to meet and a shop to work on lapidary projects with liability insurance coverage. The shop, located downstairs for now, should be moved to the maintenance building on Mitchell Ave. in a couple of weeks. A new shop will be built by the river and plans are in place to include a stamp machine.
- Questions and lively discussion commenced including the observation that handicap access must be considered in the creation of the new shop. Tom Stevens of Tom’s Lapidary on Mt. Ida Rd. offered to help instruct members. He would like to be contacted before a visit at 589-2192.
