Meeting of 3/17/2009

Steve Hart opened the meeting at 6:30pm with the Pledge of Allegiance and a welcome to all members.
Opening Remarks:
- More material for our general meeting raffle is needed, i.e. rocks, slabs, etc.
- Our local beadwork artist, Lori Millard has some of her work displayed in the Smithsonian’s National Museum
- Only four members have not taken the cabochon class.
- We are looking into classes for our members that will teach other ways to work with the cabochons they are making, wire wrapping, etc.
- Ron Minor and his wife are moving to Kansas City, Kansas. We are going to miss their contributions to the club.
- Our library is available for the first time tonight for checking out books. A huge thanks to Mary for all her hard work to make these books available to our members.
- The acrylic fusing classes are full.
New Business:
- A copy of our By Laws was signed out to each member present, to be voted on at the next general meeting. Members were advised that if they have any questions and or suggestions they should contact a board member before the next board meeting. Sue Hees to compile a list and email everyone with comments/suggestions.
Membership Update:
- To date we have 64 adult and six junior paid memberships. At the end of last year we had 79 paid memberships. It is important that we bring in young members to our club membership.
- Sue Hees introduced the new 2009 members and a big welcome was extended to all.
- A motion was made that the new membership roster, excluding addresses, be made available to the general membership. Dan seconded; motion carried.
- Sue Hees to work on opt out list.
Treasurer Report:
- Current treasurer’s report posted on bulletin board.
Field Trips:
- Babcock Field Trip cancelled due to snow – will be rescheduled at a later date.
- Frog Rock cancelled due to snow
- April 4 field trip to Marsha’s Rock Shop in Los Molinos. Lots of slabs and rough material. Club members will receive a 20% discount on items purchased
- April 25 to Fallon, NV for wonder stone. This will be a long trip, at least overnight, with lots of hiking so come prepared. Gerry is looking into RV hookups and motel accommodations. He will need a headcount of those planning to attend by April 10.

- 5/20-25 – Davis Creek for obsidian
- 6/6 – Virgin Valley for opals
- 6/13 – Babcock Peak
Show Update:
- .Wild Flower Festival
- Need volunteers to make projects to sell
- Help kids with projects at show
- 10% of what is sold will go to rock club
- Marsha donated a beautiful bracelet to sell at show, proceeds donated to rock club
- A “drop it” table will be available for show customers to drop off purchases to be held for a donation of $1.00
Photo Contest Update:
- Grand prize will be a complete house alarm system
World Rock Tumbling Championship Update:
- Feedback from CMFS – they think the first World Rock Tumbling Championship is a great idea.
- Deadline for entries is May 1.
Ron Minor presented awards for last months’ cabochon contest. Winners received slabs from Gerry:

Shop Issues:
- There will be a shop meeting April 18 at 9:00am to go over shop rules.
