Welcome Fellow Rockhounders!

Thanks for stopping by the 2010 website of the Feather River Lapidary & Mineral Society.  Our rock society is located in Oroville, CA (Butte County) and we are in our second calendar year of operation.  We have great things planned for 2010--click on our Calendar of Events and you will see!  Check out Rock Tumbling Contest for details on the Second Annual Rock Tumbling Championships!

The Club brings together a diverse group of individuals who are interested in geology, minerals, polished rocks and all aspects of jewelry-making.  We have a fully-functional Rock Shop available to our members which includes basic lapidary cutting, grinding and polishing equipment.  We not only train our members to use the equipment, but provide open shop time for them to pursue their own projects.  We also teach numerous classes and host 11 Field Trips each year to collect the raw materials we use for our projects.  Membership is open to everyone age 11 or older.

THIS IS ARTICLE 2 OF OUR BY-LAWS:

The primary objectives and purposes of this corporation shall be to increase knowledge and understanding of the earth sciences pertaining to minerals, gems, rocks and similar subjects.  To increase the practical art of cutting, grinding, and polishing of these materials and their use in the design and creation of art objects and jewelry and other objects.  To encourage members’ participation in displaying and exhibiting their work for public education purposes; to encourage field trips to study and gather rocks, minerals and fossils in natural geological settings; to encourage and assist all members in furthering their education of minerals, gems and related subjects.  As a Society to possess such equipment, supplies, raw materials and property including mines and minerals rights as may be desirable to further these purposes.

The Society is open to the general public, and upon payment of annual dues, members are welcome to:  participate in meetings and committees including the right to vote and hold office; participate in all Society instructional classes; participate in all Society field trips; participate in games, drawings, raffles and contests hosted by the Society; participate in events, trips and show of the Society, associate shows with the California Federation of Mineralogical Society (CFMS) and with other organizations as our Society may choose.
